BIOTIC
CONDITIONS
| Rodents abundance evaluation: |
high
Breeding conditions:
| Arctic Fox and skuas were absent. Non-breeding Snowy Owls had density of 0.38 bird/sq.km, Rough-legged Buzzard - 0.25 pair/sq.km. Buzzard broods had up to 3 chicks. Wildfowl and Willow Ptarmigan were rare. Wader broods (Ringed Plover, Temmink's Stint, Little Stint, Ruff, Red-necked Phalarope) were common, which indicates good breeding success in these species.
Rodent dynamics:
| Lemmings were absent, but Middendorf Vole was numerous in the areas dominated by sedge-moss tundra with dwarf shrub and willow (up to 20 animals/100 trap-nights).
